The Agreement Between Us

Terms of Service

Last updated: January 2025  ยท  Governed by the laws of England and Wales

๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ Plain English first: By using this site you agree to behave with honesty and compassion. You own your confession. We run the platform. Payments are non-refundable once a confession is submitted. We are not responsible for how your words affect you emotionally โ€” this is a community space, not a therapy service. The full legal details are below.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Karma Confessions (karmaconfessions.com), whether to read confessions, submit a confession, or send good karma, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service.

If you do not agree with any part of these terms, please do not use the site. Your continued use of the site constitutes ongoing acceptance of these terms and any updates to them.

These terms form a legally binding agreement between you and the operator of Karma Confessions, an individual based in the United Kingdom.

2. The Service We Provide

Karma Confessions is an online community platform that allows users to:

  • Anonymously submit personal confessions after paying a minimum fee
  • Browse and read approved confessions from other users, free of charge
  • Send good karma (a positive vote) to confessions they find meaningful
  • Submit follow-up "Karma Resolved" updates

We provide the platform and moderation. We do not provide counselling, therapy, legal advice, or spiritual guidance in a professional capacity. The site is a community space for personal expression and anonymous connection.

โš ๏ธ Karma Confessions is not a crisis service. If you are in distress, please contact Samaritans on 116 123 (free, 24 hours) or visit samaritans.org.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years of age to submit a confession or make a payment on this site. By submitting a confession, you confirm that you are 18 or over.

The site is open to users worldwide, though it is operated under UK law. If you are accessing the site from outside the UK, you are responsible for ensuring your use complies with any laws in your own jurisdiction.

4. Submitting Confessions

Your Content

When you submit a confession, you confirm that:

  • The confession is a genuine personal account and not fabricated to harm another person
  • You have not included any information that would identify another living person in a harmful or defamatory way
  • The content does not violate our Community Guidelines
  • You are the author of the content and have the right to submit it
  • The content does not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party

Ownership of Your Confession

You retain ownership of the words you write. By submitting them, you grant Karma Confessions a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to publish, display, and archive your confession on the platform for as long as the site operates.

This licence allows us to display your confession to other users. It does not allow us to sell your confession, use it in advertising, or republish it outside the platform without your consent.

Requesting Removal

You may request the removal of your confession at any time by contacting us at privacy@karmaconfessions.com. Because confessions are anonymous, you will need to provide sufficient context for us to locate it. We will process removal requests within 14 days.

5. Payments & Refunds

Submitting a confession requires a minimum payment of $5 USD, with the option to pay more using the guilt slider. All payments are processed securely by PayPal.

What Your Payment Covers

Your payment covers the cost of human moderation, platform maintenance, and keeping the reading experience free for all users. It is a service fee, not a guarantee of publication.

Refund Policy

  • Rejected confessions: Payments are non-refundable if a confession is rejected for violating our Community Guidelines. We will always tell you why, and you are welcome to revise and resubmit.
  • Technical failures: If a payment is taken but your confession is not received due to a technical error on our part, you are entitled to a full refund. Contact us within 7 days.
  • Duplicate payments: If you are charged twice for the same submission, we will refund the duplicate charge in full.
  • Change of mind: We are unable to offer refunds once a confession has been submitted for moderation, as moderation time has already been expended.

๐Ÿ’› We are a small, human-run operation. If you have a payment concern, please contact us at support@karmaconfessions.com and we will always try to be fair.

PayPal

Payments are governed by PayPal's User Agreement. We do not store card details. Currency conversion, where applicable, is handled by PayPal.

6. Intellectual Property

The design, branding, code, and content of Karma Confessions (excluding user-submitted confessions) are owned by the site operator and protected by copyright. You may not copy, reproduce, or republish any part of the site without written permission.

The name Karma Confessions and associated branding are the property of the site operator.

7. Prohibited Conduct

When using this site, you must not:

  • Submit false confessions intended to damage another person's reputation
  • Attempt to identify other confessors from their submissions
  • Harass, threaten, or abuse any other user or the site operator
  • Attempt to circumvent the karma voting system through automated means or multiple accounts
  • Submit content that is illegal under UK law, including but not limited to: content that incites racial or religious hatred, content that constitutes defamation, content involving minors in a sexual context
  • Use the platform for spam, advertising, or any commercial purpose without written permission
  • Attempt to access the site's backend, database, or administrative systems without authorisation
  • Use automated scripts to scrape, harvest, or mass-download content from the site

Breach of these prohibitions may result in legal action under the Computer Misuse Act 1990, the Defamation Act 2013, or other applicable UK legislation.

8. Moderation & Removal

We reserve the right to approve, reject, edit, or remove any confession or comment at our sole discretion, without obligation to explain our reasoning beyond what is stated in our Community Guidelines.

We also reserve the right to suspend access to the site for any user who repeatedly violates these terms, without notice and without refund.

We are not obliged to moderate in real time and cannot guarantee that all content on the site complies with these terms at all times. If you see content that concerns you, please report it to report@karmaconfessions.com.

9. Disclaimers

Karma Confessions is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.

  • We do not warrant that the site will be available at all times, error-free, or free from viruses or other harmful components
  • We do not verify the truth or accuracy of user-submitted confessions
  • The confessions published on this site represent the personal views and experiences of anonymous individuals โ€” they do not represent the views of the site operator
  • The site is not a substitute for professional mental health support, legal advice, spiritual counselling, or any other professional service

Nothing in these terms excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under English law.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by English law, the site operator shall not be liable for:

  • Any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the site
  • Emotional distress arising from reading confessions published on the site
  • Loss of data, revenue, or business opportunity
  • Any content submitted by users of the site
  • Temporary unavailability of the site for any reason

Our total liability to you in connection with the site, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), or otherwise, shall not exceed the amount you paid to submit your confession.

These limitations reflect a fair allocation of risk between us, given that this is a low-cost, user-generated content platform.

11. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.

Any disputes arising in connection with these terms or your use of the site shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

If you are a consumer resident in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also have the right to bring proceedings in the courts of your home jurisdiction.

If you are resident in another country, you may also have the protection of the mandatory laws of your home country. Nothing in these terms is intended to deprive you of rights you cannot waive by contract.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, add a notice to the homepage.

Your continued use of the site after changes are published constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms. If you do not agree to the updated terms, please stop using the site.

For any questions about these Terms of Service, please contact us:

  • General enquiries: Send
  • Privacy matters: Send
  • Payment issues: Send

We aim to respond to all enquiries within 5 working days.
